Octopus Energy

Intelligent Octopus Go EV Tariff Review

Octopus Energy's flagship EV tariff: six off-peak hours at ~8p/kWh whole-home (23:30–05:30), with the new 6-hour cap and Charge Cap toggle from March 2026.

★★★★★

Pros

  • Off-peak rate around 8p/kWh — among the cheapest in the UK as of May 2026
  • Cheap rate applies to your whole home during the 6-hour window, not just the EV
  • Works with Ohme, Andersen, Wallbox, Hypervolt, Zappi and Octopus Charge
  • Intelligent scheduling can add bonus cheap slots during the day when grid supply is high
  • No exit fees on the variable Intelligent Octopus Go product

Cons

  • From March 2026 only the first 6 hours of nightly charging are at the off-peak rate; further charging falls back to the higher Boost rate
  • Requires an SMETS2 (or compatible SMETS1) smart meter and a smart EV charger that supports Octopus's intelligent scheduling
  • Daytime/peak rate of around 32p/kWh is unremarkable — the savings rely on shifting most usage to overnight
  • Customers report occasional billing-accuracy issues on overnight sessions that need manual support to resolve
